All Souls Day, November 2

As we begin the month of prayer for the holy souls, we ask the intercession of all the saints and of our Blessed Mother.  In 1610 Ven. Dominic of Jesus and Mary, Prepositor General of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, was lead to this miraculous image, Mater Gratiae, and given this promise:"'All those who implore my protection, devoutly honoring this picture, will obtain their petitions, and will receive many graces. Moreover, I shall hearken in a special manner to the prayers that shall be addressed to me for the relief of the souls in purgatory'"  ~Joan Carroll Cruz Miraculous Images of Our Lady. Vigil Prayer, Oct 12, 2013

Pope Francis led a prayer vigil Saturday, October 12, stressing that the Virgin Mary leads Christians to the mercy of God who can untie “all knotted hearts.” Each one of us has “knots” in our souls, caused by sin, said Pope Francis. “These knots take away our peace and serenity...” He acknowledged that some might believe they are without hope and say 'But Father, mine can’t be untied.' “That’s a mistake. All knots in the heart, all knots in the conscience, can be untied.” If we ask Mary, “the woman of faith” for help, he continued, “she will surely say to us, ‘go forward, go to the Lord, he will understand you.’ And she takes us with the hand of a mother to the embrace of the Father, to the Father of mercy.”

Our Lady of Victory: Feast Day, October 7

Our Lady of the Rosary was known for several centuries by the alternate title of “Our Lady of Victory,” in honor of her intercession in a 16th century naval victory which secured Europe against invasion by Islam. "The rosary became the spiritual weapon of the Christians as thousands joined together in prayer on the day of the Battle of Lepanto, October 7, 1571." The Rosary was prayed  from dawn to dusk and victory was won. In honor of her intercession, Pope Pius V named that day a feast day, Our Lady of Victory. This name was later changed to Our Lady of the Rosary, so both titles refer to the same event.
